The following is applicable to dogs in Austria: Every animal travelling with a private individual from a non-member EU country must be fully vaccinated against rabies. Rabies vaccination

Rabies vaccination is valid when an animal has been vaccinated with an inactivated vaccine for rabies, in accordance with approvals for the placing on the market of vaccines in the state of origin, 21 days after completion of basic immunisation, when the animal has regularly undergone booster vaccination, when it is a vaccination with an efficacy rating from at least one international antigen unit (WHO standard).

Leads and muzzle compulsory

In Austria, the obligation for dogs to be kept on a lead and to be for muzzles worn is not national, but regulated on a municipal level. Leads and muzzles must be brought with you for a stay in Austria. Leads and muzzles are compulsory in urban areas. If required, and in any case at bus stops, on public transport, in schools and kindergartens, at children's play areas and where there are larger gatherings of people, for instance in shopping centres, at swim facilities and at events, leads and muzzles are compulsory.
